Financial Reporting Services for Small Businesses

Financial reporting services from Ledger & Logic build your reporting around the questions you want answered, so the answer arrives in a report rather than being something you work out yourself.

Financial reporting comes as part of an ongoing bookkeeping plan rather than on its own.

What comes with monthly bookkeeping, and what this adds

Every monthly bookkeeping plan includes a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet each month.

Financial reporting adds to that where you want to see something the standard statements do not show on their own: how this year compares with last, how one part of the business is doing against another, or how the figures look laid out for someone outside the business.

What that covers is agreed with you, and it can change as your questions change.

Who financial reporting helps

You are in the right place if any of these are familiar:

  • You read your profit and loss statement and still have questions
  • You would like to compare this year with last without building it yourself
  • You run more than one location, service line or crew and want them side by side
  • A lender, a landlord or another outside party has asked for financial information your standard reports do not show
  • You would like your reports on a schedule that suits you
  • You bill by the job and want to see profit by project
  • You would rather talk your numbers through than read them alone

We are in Lorton, Virginia, and work with small businesses across Northern Virginia. Because the work happens in your cloud-based QuickBooks file, we can support clients anywhere in the country.

For contractors, landscapers, and other project-based businesses, profit by project is job costing, where that is included in your plan.

How financial reporting services work

A personal consultation

Tell us what you would like your reports to answer and who else will read them. From that, we can usually give you a broad range on the call itself.

A review of your books

We review what you have now, so the plan we quote fits what is there.

Your plan and fee

You receive a clear scope and price before work begins, including which reports are included and how often.

Access

We help you grant accountant access to QuickBooks Online and, where available, read-only access to your business bank and credit card accounts so we can retrieve statements directly. If your financial institution does not offer that access, you can share statements through QuickBooks Online or a shared Google Drive folder.

Your reporting setup

We agree which reports you want, how they are laid out, and when they reach you. Where your books need to be structured differently to produce them, we will tell you what that involves first.

Each reporting period

Your reports are prepared from reconciled books and provided on the agreed schedule.

What financial reporting includes

  • A profit and loss statement and balance sheet each month, as part of your monthly bookkeeping
  • Comparative reporting, where that is included in your plan
  • Reporting broken out by the parts of your business you want to see separately, where your books are set up to support it
  • Reports prepared from books that have been reconciled for the period
  • Reports prepared on the schedule agreed with you
  • A call to go through the reports together, where that is part of your plan

Where you want profit by project, that is job costing, which can be added to your plan.

What this gives you

You can answer a question about the business without opening QuickBooks to work it out.

When someone outside the business asks for figures, the information in your books is easier to provide.

If something in the reporting looks unlike your usual month, we will discuss it with you.

How financial reporting is priced

Financial reporting is added to your bookkeeping plan rather than purchased on its own, so it is covered by your personalized monthly amount.

Your personalized plan outlines the work and level of support included. If your needs change, we discuss any adjustments with you before changing the scope or fee.

Your plan runs month to month, with no long-term commitment. A written service agreement outlines the scope, fees, responsibilities, and cancellation process, including any required notice.

What we need from you

Mostly your questions. The figures are already in your books.

Once access is set up, we retrieve bank and credit card statements directly where available. You provide receipts, supporting documents, and details about transactions that need clarification through QuickBooks Online or a shared Google Drive folder. We group questions where practical to make responding easier.

Tell us what you want to be able to see and who else will read it, and we will work out what your books need in order to produce it. If a report would mean restructuring your chart of accounts, we will say so before anything changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from the reports in monthly bookkeeping?

Your plan already includes a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet each month. Financial reporting is for what you would like to see beyond those, and what it covers is agreed with you.

Can you produce reports for my lender?

We can prepare reports using the information available in your books and, where possible, customize them to provide the financial information requested. If a lender wants something the records cannot produce, we will tell you what would be needed.

Can the reporting change later?

Yes. The questions change as the business does, and we would rather adjust the reporting than leave you reading something that no longer helps.
